Fort Road's Rich History

Keeping our Heritage Alive

For a closer gander at The Village Of North Edmonton publication, click below.

The Fort Trail Historical Foundation was formed in March of 2005.  We successfully completed the following projects.

  • Canada Packers smokestack successfully lobbied the Edmonton Historical Board for the designation and preservation of the structure.  The site is now the location of the N.E. Transit Garage. A park surrounding the Stack has been constructed and with interpretive panels for viewing by the general public.

  • Naming of Braids Park located in Belvedere.

  • Naming of Dwyer Square which honours pioneer Patrick O Dwyer (located at the Station Pointe Lands) on Fort Road.

  • Received a grant of $200.641.00 from the Province of Alberta for historical enhancement at Station Pointe.  (The Village of North Edmonton story) will be placed in Dwyer Square.

  • Images on the barrier wall at Station Pointe that honours the agricultural sectors of the Province.

  • A historical map will also be completed and installed at that location.

We welcome any family stories that one might have as we are continuing to enrich our Home Town legacy. If you'd like submit your stories and old photos related to the Fort Road area and would like them to be featured on our website, please send us an email at:
